update 145

This is pretty cool! The oldest church in York County is Grafton Christian Church. Last week on their church sign, they welcomed us to their neighborhood! That's cool. The oldest church welcoming the youngest. At 6:00 pm, the pastor of Grafton Christian worshipped with us. I'm impressed by that!

Update 173

Pretty Cool Week!
  • Every night we've had trainings at the building! Hundreds of our volunteers have given up their evenings to get familiar with the building and equipment. Very cool.
  • Hazel Todd has prepared and served dinner to about 60 staff and volunteers every night. Last night, we had chickfila donated from the Patrick Henry Mall Chick Fila! Yummy. VERY, VERY Cool.
  • We're still waiting on our Certificate of Occupancy. Not very cool. Last night's inspection went very well. The last 2 hurdles are VDOT and the site inspection. Both should happen by the end of today.
  • Saturday night's "Volunteer Only" experience and Sunday's first services in the building will be amazing. Do not miss them. They will be cool.
  • We invited 11,000 of our friends and neighbors to attend our Grand Opening. Postcards will be delivered today! Cool.
  • Our new website crashed! A temporary page is posted at www.watersedgechurch.net. Not cool.
  • 505 chairs fit in the auditorium. Wow - so cool.
  • I can't wait until this weekend. It's been a pretty cool week.

Update 171

We have another opportunity to work on the landscape this Saturday, May 16. The job this week will be to finish the clean-up of the property line and to assist the professional landscaping crew (Virginia Landscapes) with installation of trees in the parking area and tilling of planting beds along Route 17. Virginia Landscapes has graciously donated their time to this project and are only charging Waters Edge for the plant materials. We want to help them as much as possible. Work will begin at 8:00 AM and will continue throughout the morning.

Monday Morning, May 18th you can help pull toys and audio visual equipment from our existing portable systems. We will begin working at 8:45 AM in the parking lot at Bethel Baptist Church, Yorktown. This should only take about an hour.

Update 170

Will you pray? We are getting down to the wire...and there are some critical components that HAVE to happen in the next couple of days. Please pray:
- we will have favor with Dominion Power and that our job would get priority!
- water hook would go smooth (no leaks)
- concrete stain would have an even, smooth finish and would dry quickly
- AVL consultants & install crew would arrive safely

Update 169

Over the last few days there has been a FLURRY of activity at the building. Today, in the midst of the chaos, the coolest thing happened! Karen Smith and Claire Manicone were down measuring for some cabinets that we will be purchasing and an electrician working in a back closet stopped them. He asked, "are you from the church?" Then, "are you taking donations?" Ok, that's a CRAZY question to ask a church! Of course, we're taking donations! He walked out to his van and returned with a wad of cash - $200! WOW.
